CABLE TV PROGRAM -- Tuesday September 22nd, 2009

Our rescue is hosting a new local Cable TV program with Sheridan Crockett called "ANIMAL RESCUE". It is on local cable HTV-3 Heritage TV on BVU Cable in VA. The program showcases not only rescue groups, but everything about animals. It is entertaining and educational. Its goal is through entertainment is the education the communities will be more informed; and smarter pet purchases and care will come from the program. Community spay-neuter fun -- Saturday August 1st, 2009

SHA has added a spay neuter division to help the Community with Spay - neuter funds for those less fortunate. We have assigned $1,000.00 of our Animal Rescue Resort fund to this project. As soon as a grant is approved we will inform the public.


Working Dog Symposium -- Saturday May 30th, 2009

On May 30th from 9:00 to 4:00 at the National Guard Armory - 611 Bluff City Hwy. Bristol TN. Presenters and demonstrations about working dog breeds. Our Siberian Husky rescue is hosting a one day Working Dog Symposium which will include Karen Ramstead as one of several guest speakers. Karen and her team of Siberians successfully completed the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2008. In 2008 her team was third fastest in Iditarod history for a purebred Siberian Husky team. Ms. Ramstead is donating her time to help the rescue. ( www.northwapiti.com ). Karen will be on a local radio talk show Blue Ridge Outdoors - WFHG in the morning. So she will not do a presentation probably until after 11:00. Another Guest Speaker will be Dr. AL Townshend DVM. He is a contributing Author to the text "Canine Sports Medicine" and has received the coveted "Golden Stethescope Award" from the Iditarod for contributions above and beyond the call of duty in bringing veterinary care to the dogs of the Iditarod. He will speak on Veterinary Medicine for the Working Dog. Other Working Dog presenters will SW VA k-9 Search and Rescue Team on their group and dogs finding missing persons. Several members will be at the booth to give one on one attention. Paula Shupe of Beyond Sit and Stay Dog Training will talk about personal protection dogs. Full Pull Kennels will discuss Canine Weight Pulling. Dale Myers of Uplander Hunting Preserve will talk about hunting dog training. Jeff Sparks of Silver Star K-9 Training will talk about tracking with bloodhounds. There will be booths set up for each for one on one personal attention. ** The public will not be able to bring their dogs, as it is inside a building. There is a $5.00 entry fee that helps offset costs for the rescue that is hosting as fundraiser The presentations start at 9:00. Location of Armory is 611 Bluff City Hwy. Bristol Tennessee. SLED DOG RESORT -- Monday February 2nd, 2009

Our rescue is working on a non-profit sled dog resort mountain lodge that will not only help our Siberian Husky rescue but other Specialty Pet Rescue Groups. This will be a working business that will help other non-profits. This is a HUGE project being the ONLY sled dog resort in the SOUTH, and we need a lot of help on it. GRANT WRITER needed, and more ! Dog Sledding Class -- Saturday March 1st, 2008

We will have a Beginners and Advanced dogsledding class on March 1st at Iron Horse Camprgound on Rt 58 in Damascus VA. Begins at 10:00.The class usually takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Sled Dog Club -- Saturday February 9th, 2008

We had a meeting on Feb 9 where we discussed a sled dog club as a division of our rescue. The Blue Ridge Dryland Mushers sled dog club is now a division or our rescue. Winterfest Fundraiser -- Saturday January 19th, 2008

The Siberian Husky comes to life in the Winter and our husky rescue is hosting the Winterfest on January 19th with a re-enactment of the 1925 Alaska Serum Run, on the Virginia Creeper Trail. Most events will be held at the park in Damascus VA. This year it will be well worth it to Bundle Up for Snow Pups, as the sleddogs come into the park between 12:00 & 12:30. So much educational and fun family entertainment, such as the Alaska Lumberjack competition, compliments of Virginia Tech Forestry Club will be sure to make you want to come out and enjoy the festivities.
